prosody

prosody - n., the study of poetic meter and the art of versification.

From Middle English, from Latin prosodia, accent of a syllable, from Greek prosōidia, song sung to music, accent, from pros, in addition to + ōidē, song, as in ode. Which implies the ancient Greeks thought of songs as typically a capella, at least at one point, but that doesn't sound right. Whichever.
