mither

mither (MI-thr, MAI-thr) - (N. England) v.i., to make a fuss or bother, moan, complain. v.t., to pester or irritate someone. n., a complaining or bothersome person.

Also, Scots variant on mother, but that's a different word with a different root. This is a distinctively Midlands and Northwest England word, sometimes also spelled moither, which gives you a sense of the range of the vowel. Its origin is uncertain, but Welsh is a likely source, possibly moedrodd, to worry or bother.
