parid

parid (PAH-rid) - n., any of numerous small passerine birds of the family Paridae, the tits and chickadees.

No relationship to marid, sorry. The difference between a tit and a chickadee is that if it lives the Old World, it's a tit, and if it lives in the New World, it's a chickadee (unless it's a titmouse). Name is, via the family name, from Latin parus, tit (and by extension chickadee).

Great tit (left) and Eurasian blue tit (right) are both parids
Thanks, WikiMedia!

So I presume a tit or chickadee hen, depending on her reproductive history, would be a nulliparid, primiparid, or multiparid? (Small songbirds can’t afford to be monoparids.)
