peregrinate

peregrinate - v., to travel or journey, esp. on foot.

Can be transitive as well, with the object being the place traveled through or around. From Latin peregrīnārī, to travel abroad, from peregrīnus, foreigner, from pereger, being abroad, from per-, through (here in the sense of beyond) + ager, land. In short, literally, to travel beyond the fields we know.
