clowder - n., a group of cats.


No word origin in evidence. No doubt the OED might shed some light upon the dander. ETA: the OED sheds that it's an "obs. var of cludder, clutter."

And that's the end of this theme week -- way too soon, for I've at least another week's worth of interesting left. I'll return to them later, though, for there's some onesies I wanna run first. Stay tuned!

clowder, obs. var of cludder,clutter.
1801 in Strutt Sports & Past. i. i. 19 A clowder of cats.
One would at least like to see it used in, say, The Gentleman's Magazine.
