chouse

chouse - v., to cheat, trick, defraud.

From the Turkish çavus or chaush, doorkeeper, messenger. Supposedly, in 1609 an interpreter attached to the Turkish embassy cheated Turkish merchants in England of 4,000 pounds. Can also be used as a noun for the trick, the trickster, and the one easily tricked.
