pauldron

Theme week! Pieces of armor.

pauldron (PAWL-druhn) - n., a piece of plate armor protecting the shoulder and upper arm.

In that form since the 1400s, earlier paleron or poleron, from Middle French espalleron, shoulder, from Latin spatula, blade (as in shoulder blade), from spatha, blade + -ule, diminutive.
