bryology

bryology (brai-OL-oh-jee) - n., the study of mosses.

Or more precisely, the branch of botany dealing with bryophytes, which includes mosses, liverworts, and hornworts, all of them non-vascular plants. Coined around 1860 from Greek roots bryon, a moss + -ology.
