capiz (kuh-PEEZ) - n., a marine bivalve (Placuna placenta) of coastal Philippines and nearby waters, valued for its translucent inner shell, used in lamps, windowpanes, etc.


Also called the windowpane oyster or windowpane shell. Origin of the name is unknown, aside from some Philippine language.
