laburnum

laburnum (luh-BUR-nuhm) - n., any of either two or three trees of the genus Laburnum (legume family) of Eurasia with elongated clusters of pendulous yellow flowers.

The two are L. alpinum, alpine laburnum, and L. anagyroides, common laburnum, and the disputed third L. caramanicum, which some botanists categorize as a broom. All the dictionaries seem very concerned to also inform that they are poisonous. Because I always look to a dictionary for botanical warnings. Name is from the Latin name, of unknown origin (possibly Etruscan or another now lost Mediterranean language).
