adventitious
adventitious - adj., added externally, not essentially inherent; accidental, additional, foreign.
From Latin advenire, to come towards or to. Some writers think that lyrical prose is adventitious to good writing, though of course stylemonkeys disagree. Then again, some people think all poetry is adventitious -- and egregious.
