groak (GROHK) or growk - (obs., rare) v., to stare longingly at (someone who is eating) in hopes they will share their food.


Often used of domestic animals -- and yes, I'm looking at you, Buster the Very Big Retriever -- but can also apply to a person. Rare enough, I don't have an etymology ... and honestly, I would not be entirely sure it's a real word but for it being cited by Foyle's Philavery: A Treasury of Unusual Words by Christopher Foyle.
