lithify - v., to change into stone.


Both transitive and intransitive senses. From Greek lithos, stone.

I've always been fond of this one -- it has a more liquid sound than petrify, and sometimes freezing just sneaks up on you instead of plosively arriving.

i always liked that "lith" is of or related to stone, and "leth" is of or related to memory.
