picaroon - n., a rogue, vagabond, or brigand; a pirate or corsair.

Also can be a verb, to operate as one (usually specifically as a pirate). Not to be confused with poltroon. From the early 17th century from Spanish picarón, itself an augmented form of pícaro, rogue, possibly from picar, to prick.
