tuffet - n. a clump or tuft of grass; a low seat, such as a stool.

Diminutive of tuft, which is itself from Old French. Per the Online Etymological Dictionary, the latter meaning is intended in "Little Miss Muffet," but I prefer a more outdoorsy flavor. But then, I was raised on a diet of The Space-Child's Mother Goose.

     Little Miss Muffet
     Sits on her tuffet
In a nonchalant sort of way;
     With her force-field around her,
     The Spider, the bounder,
Is not in the picture today.
