thirl - v., to pierce, to drill, to bore a hole.


This is not actually a leftover from Five Letter Words Week: I actually had thirlable on my list but couldn't make myself use that form. From Anglo-Saxon, but now dialect of north England Scotland only. Thrill is actually an alteration of this, from the sense of the excitement penetrating one.
