purfle - n., an ornamental border. v., to decorate with same.

There's all kinds of ways to purfle things -- with a wrought or flowered border, with inlay, with embroidery, with metallic thread, et cet. The original meaning is embroidered -- from Anglo-French porfil, from Latin profilare, from pro- in the sense of adding to + filum, thread.
