whelve - v., to overturn, esp. to cover by overturning something.

Such as to cover with an upside-down pot, or with an upside-down boat. A word from Old English that survives mainly in the related word whelm, to capsize, which in turn survives mainly in the combined forms overwhelm (to completely capsize) and underwhelm (to fail to overcome).
