sforzando - adj., (music) played with a sudden, strong accent; emphatically.

Noted as sfz, or if to be immediately followed by piano (soft), sfp -- which always tripped me up. From Italian, like just about all musical terms, gerund form of sforzare, to show strength, from ex-, used as an intensive prefix + forzare, to force, which is from Vulgar Latin, from Classical Latin fortis, strong.
