roque - n., a variation of croquet played with short-handled mallets on a hard court bounded by walls.

One syllable. From alteration of roquet (roh-KAY, the action of hitting an opponent's ball in croquet), which is itself an alteration of croquet. At the 1904 summer Olympics in St. Louis, roque was a medal event, though only U.S. players competed.
