habanero - n., an extremely pungent pepper, a variety of Capsicum chinense.
Bonus word!
jalapeño - n., a pungent pepper, a variety of Capsicum annuum.
The thing these have in common, aside from being peppers, is the origin of their names in Spanish: habanero means "from Havana" and jalapeño means "from Jalapa" or "from Xalapa," as the capital of Veracruz State (in Mexico) is now spelled. The latter, btw, is more or less accurate, though the pepper was from a wide area, but no one seems to know where habaneros really came from.
And that wraps up this theme week. Back next week with the regular mix.
