zinzolin - n., purplish red (Obs.).


Formerly a specific dye made from a sesame seed extract. From French (where it's still used today), from Italian, from Arabic djoudjolan, "from sesame seeds." Another cognate is gingerline, also from French as gingeoline, arriving there via Spanish. Neither to be confused with murrey, reddish purple, "the color of a ripe, red plum." Continuing Olde Colors week.
