obtrectation
Nov. 16th, 2005 07:21 amobtrectation - n., slander, detraction, calumny.
The Worthless Word of the Day site notes that Webster's 1828 dictionary marked this as "little used" at the time, and presumably less so since then. From Latin obtrectare to detract from through envy, from ob-, towards, against, + tractare, to pull. Or something like that.
