batrachomyomachia
Dec. 29th, 2006 07:28 ambatrachomyomachia - n., a tempest in a teaspot, much ado about nothing.
Literally, a battle between mice and frogs -- from an ancient parody of Homer called this. Batracho- is the frogs, -myo- is the mice, and -machia is the battle.
A recycle from a few years ago -- but then, this is self-indulgent words week. Or was. See you next year!
ETA: a link to a prose translation of the Batrachomyomachia with amusing illustrations.
