It's been a while since the last theme week, and I've got a handful on these, so here's the start of a week of astronomic words.
firmament - n., the celestial sphere and the collection of stars whose positions are fixed upon it.
The vault of the sky and the non-wandering stars. Though if you're really good, you can notice some stars have parallax with respect to the others, and so are not fixed. From Latin firmamentum, firmness, the sky, from firmare, to make firm.
