vibrissa - n., any of the long stiff hairs that project from the snout or brow of most mammals.
A technical name for whiskers, as in a cat's. Usually used as tactile organs. The term is also used for some birds' feathers about the bird serving a similar function. Plural is vibressae. From Latin vibrissae, from vibrāre, to vibrate.
