eelpout - n., any of several eel-like bottom-dwelling cold-water marine fishes of the family Zoarcidae; a freshwater cod (Lota lota) with barbels about the mouth, also called burbot.


I cannot say anything that will improve upon the word itself. The oceananic eelpout is sometimes also called ocean pout, there being other, similar fishes also called pouts. Name comes from Old English, ǣlepūte, meaning eel + pout (in the fish sense).
