wangle - v., to bring about or obtain something by deceitful or underhanded methods.
Often with the connotation of dishonest ends as well as means. Started as British slang from the 1810s, which means that no one agrees on the origin -- possible routes to coinage include waggle and a combination of wag (the tongue) + dangle (after) -- though most of them agree it came into wider use in the trenches of World War I.
