esker (ES-ker) - n., a winding ridge of sand and gravel deposited by a stream underneath a glacier.

One of those rare words from Gaelic -- specifically, Irish Gaelic eiscir, ridge, which was borrowed into English in 1848. The Eiscir Riada runs most of the distance from Dublin to Galway, over 200km long.
