peristeronic
Nov. 12th, 2010 07:16 amperisteronic (puh-rhis-teh-RON-ik) - adj., of, pertaining to, or resembing a pigeon.
Yes, they needed a word for it -- where "they" was National Peristeronic Society of pigeon fanciers and breeders, who wanted in 1867 to change their name from the Philoperisteron Society. So they coined the word from Greek peristera, a wild pigeon or dove. Not be confused in any way shape or form with columbarian, which was coined from Latin columbarius, a keeper of doves.
And that wraps it up for a stealth theme week of resemblences and pertinances. Back next week with the regular mix. Coo!
