phycology (feye-KOL-uh-jee) - n., the study of algae.
A branch of botany, also called algology. While the latter comes from the Latin root that gives us algae itself, phycology comes from Greek phŷkos, seaweed, because many seaweeds such as kelp are, in fact, multicellular forms of algae.
