lyard or lyart (LEYE-erd) - adj., streaked, spotted, or dappled with gray or white.
Now chiefly Scots, and chiefly used of a horse, but was used by Chaucer in The Friar's Tale of a boy. Borrowed in the 14th century from Middle French liart, after which my trail runs cold.
