weald (WEELD) - n., (Brit.) a wooded region; also, an open rolling upland region.

The commonality of the two types of places being uncultivated. The prime example being The Weald. Not to be confused with a wold, another name for an open rolling upland region but specifically on top of limestone or chalk, descended from the same Old English root -- that being weald, which originally meant a forest (compare German Wald).
