hystricine (HIS-truh-seen) - adj., of, pertaining to, or resembling a porcupine.


Not sure when it was borrowed, but it was from not classical but Late Latin hystrīx, a particular species of porcupine. Note that as a taxonomic epithet, hystrix means spiny.
