melic (MEL-ik) - adj., of or pertaining to song, lyric, intended to be sung.

Especially, relating to the more elaborate form of Greek lyric poetry, as distinguished from iambic and elegiac poetry. Or we can just stick to the singing part. Greek root, as you might expect, but arrived around 1700 via Latin melicus, from Greek melikós, adjectival form of mélos, song, musical phrase -- which is also the root of melody.

Admin note: posting is likely to be light next week due to external obligations -- with any luck, things should clear up Thursday or Friday. Or maybe I'll manage to pop on before then.
