soupçon (soop-SAWN, SOOP-sawn) - n., a very small amount, esp. of a flavor, a trace, a hint; a suspicion, a suggestion.

As you might guess, borrowed (in the 1760s) from French, where it means only a suspicion, as in mistrust, which takes it back to its roots: from Old French sospeçon, from Late Latin suspectiōn, stem of suspectiō, alteration of Latin suspīciō, suspicion.
