quoll (KWAWL) - n., any of a handful of carnivorous marsupials (genus Dasyurus) of Australia and New Guinea.

They are about the size of a house cat, and for long time were generally called native cats, until this name for them from the Guugu Yimidhirr language (a people on the coast of northern Queensland) was revived in the mid-20th century.
