makai (mah-KAI) - adv., seaward, towards or by the sea.
These are used almost exclusively in Hawai'i, and come from Hawai'ian: ma- is a directional particle, uka is inland/upland, and kai is ocean. Commonly used in directions, including which way to turn/which side of the highway/et cet.
