pricket (PRIK-it) - n., a male deer in his second year (with unbranched antlers); a metal spike on which to stick a candle, a candlestick with such a spike.
Been around since the 14th century as a diminutive of prick (which itself goes back to Old English with the original sense of dot/point/sharp thing), but in these senses only since the 15th century -- the original meaning was the candle itself.
