carceral (KAR-suh-ruhl) - adj., of, pertaining to, or belonging to a prison.

A lesser-known cousin of incarcerate, both from the same Latin root carcer, prison/jail (as well as the starting place for a racecourse). Both were borrowed in the mid-16th century -- incarcerate in the 1550s, this one in the 1570s.
