chirm (CHERM) - n., (obs.) the chirping or mournful cry of birds; (rare) clamor, din, as of many voices, birdsong, etc.
As in the chirm of insects in the late afternoon. One dictionary claimed that the birdsound is specifically the mournful sounds made just before a storm -- I dunno. Goes back to Old English cirm/cierm noise.
