mubble-fubbles

mubble-fubbles (MUH-buhl-fuh-buhls) - n., (obs.) low spirits, the blue-devils, the mopes.
Usually with "the" and in the plural, as in having the mubble-fubbles. Or as Shakespeare put it in Cymbeline, "He did incline to sadness, and oft-times / Not knowing why." Sometimes spelled mubblefubbles, mumble-fubbles, and mubble fubbles. Origin unknown, aside from the obvious redupication element.
Edvard Munch has, as usual for the darker moods, a good depiction:
