undulate (UHN-dyuh-lait, UHN-juh-lait) - v., to move with a sinuous or wavelike motion; (of a sound) to rise and fall in pitch.
The motion can be up-and-down or side-to-side. Generally an intransitive verb, but can also be used to cause an object to move this way. Adopted in the 1650s from Latin undulātus, undulated, from unda, wave + ula, diminutive suffix + -atus, adjectival suffix -- so, yes, it was first (and still is, rarely) an adjective in English.
