lumbago (luhm-BAY-goh) - n., pain in the lower (lumbar) region of the back, esp. chronic or recurring pain; an episode of such pain.

Multiple possible causes, including muscle strain or damage to discs of the spinal column -- so not a specific condition so much as a general term for the symptom. This is an old-fashioned term (I think of it as something an Uncle Murray might complain about) and the preferred term by modern medical professionals is LBP or Lower Back Pain. The English was adopted in the 1690s from Late Latin lumbāgō, from Late Latin lumbus, lumbar, from Latin lumbus, loin (itself from PIE *lendʰ-, loins).
