clough or cleugh (KLUF) or cleuch (KLUK) - n., a gorge or narrow ravine.
Not part of gully week because there's no intimation that the watercourse is intermittent, but found during research for it -- initially as two separate words (the first and last) before I realized these are regional variants: it's clough in the northern U.S. and mid-northern England (i.e., circum Lancashire), cleugh in northmost England (i.e., circum Northumberland), and cleuch in Scotland. All are descended from Old English clōh.
