melilot (MEL-uh-lot) - n., any sweetclover of genus Melilotus, grown as a forage plant.
About 20 species, occurring worldwide. In use since early Middle English as mellilot, from Old French melilot, from Latin melilotos, replacing Old English form milotis, also from Latin, from Greek melilōtos, from meli honey + lōtos clover (as well as lotus).
