allosexual
Jan. 8th, 2024 07:49 amA week with not so much a theme as words from a semantic domain. Which counts as a theme, but since I can't put my finger on a good description of what they have in common, I'm not declaring one. If you can name it, my thanks.
allosexual (al-uh-SEK-shoo-uhl) - adj., having sexual attraction to others.
In contrast to asexual, not having sexual attraction to anyone -- so consider this another in the series of cisgender (in contrast to transgender) and endosex (contrast to intersex) of a complementary term that helps destigmatize an identity. There's an older meaning of a synonym for heterosexual, but it doesn't seem to have caught out outside of psychology jargon and in any case feels more than a little skeevy, at least to me. From Ancient Greek prefex allo-, other + -sexual (which, if you care, is from Latin).
