Not quite what I expected, either -- thought it would be something more like "pertaining to or resembling wine" or possibly "vine-y." Taken in the 1670s from Late Latin vīnāceus, pertaining to wine (a-ha!), sometimes specifically the refuse from wine pressing, from Latin vīnum, wine, from PIE root *wéyh₁ōm.
