homiletic - adj., of, relating to, or resembling to a homily; of the nature of a sermon, preachy.

Homiletics is, in theology, the application of rhetoric to public preaching -- the study of being an effective preacher. In use from the mid 17th century, from Latin homīlēticus, from Greek homīlētikos, of conversation, from homīlētos, conversation, from homīlein, to converse with, from homīlos, crowd -- which is a fascinating shift in meanings.
