mussitate - v., to talk indistinctly esp. in a low voice, mumble, mutter.


Yes, Virginia, we did need another m-word meaning the same thing, or apparently we did in the 1620s when we imported it from Latin mussitātus, the past participle of mussitāre, the frequentive of mussāre, to mutter. I wish English had frequentive conjugations. Pronounced MUHS-i-tayt.
